hi guys there you are well today I’mgoing to make this simple and rusticchandelier it’s made of string lightsand wood and you don’t need a whole lotof tools to put it together which ispretty cool now if you enjoyed thisvideo please share give me a thumbs upand subscribe to my channel for moreprojects and I also do think Skillsharefor bringing you guys this video todayskill here is an online learningcommunity for creators with tons of coolclasses but now let’s get into the build for this project I’m going to use a 10bulb string light these are so coolbecause they come all wired up with awhole bunch of bulbs ready to be turnedinto something interesting in terms ofwood I’m using some barn style wood andI found these boards at my local homeimprovement store this wood has a greatweather color on one side only and it’smade of cedar but of course you can useany wood you have on hand first thing todo is to plan out the design how largedo I want this thing I think or twoboards connected would be a good widthand in
terms of the lights I decided togo with a rather random distribution ofthe bulbs I didn’t want it to look toostructured I also want to add a borderaround and for that I figured I wouldjust rip this board in half then I cut the main boards to size andcut mitered corners for the borderpieces testing here and later I willkeep the withered sides pointing theother way so you won’t see the cedar tomake the holes for the bolts I used in 1inch stained a bit to connect the twoboards together I use pocket screws andglue for the border I wanted a bit of alip so it wouldn’t come flush so I justpropped the pieces up a little and thenit was easy to secure the border evenlywith some glue and the nail gun and thisis a really simple way to connecteverything perfect for this project nowI love doing creative projects andlearning new things which is why I’mvery excited to let you guys know
abouta service that I’ve been testing outlately and that is Skillshare soSkillshare is an online learningcommunity for creators with more than12,000 classes in a ton of subjects Ihave been checking out various onesrelating to photography design andwriting now everyone get to the classtri project and you can get 3 months ofSkillshare for just 99 cents by clickingthe link in the description so that is areally good offer so definitely checkthat outnow back to the project I want you toseal the wood just to bring the color ofthe rustic look at a little bit more andI use the water-based polyurethane forthat here I’m also painting a piece ofthe same wood in white and this willsecure to the ceiling now I will connectthe main box to the white board withsteel cables and I’ve got some eye hookshere that I’m securing in the cornersI’m also adding some extra lamp wire tomake the string light cord longer and ifyou are not comfortable doing this stepthen
get a friend to help you okay so toconnect it all I’m pulling the steelwires through the hook I also have twohooks attached to the white board andI’m pulling it through and then goingthrough all the corners until they’reall connected to secure the cables inthe corners I’m using these strippersand making a loop which you can’t gothrough the hook and here’s the generalidea and I really like the idea ofhaving one table like this attached so Ican adjust it as opposed to cutting fourcables exactly the same length andtrying to get that even if that soundsdifficult to get just right I think
nextI have the light strip sockets and I’mjust pushing them through the holes Idrilled earlier also securing the wirewith some fasteners so they want to popup and be visible okay so I’m attachingthe board two studs in the ceiling andthen simply screwing in the bulbsand there you go a pretty simplechandelier made with string lights alltogether I counted this ended up costinglike $40 which I thought was a prettygood priceI think this fixture would be perfectover like a dining table or anywherereally like I’m
planning on having ithere over my reading chair and it givesoff a really nice and warm light andreally adds a cool focal point I thinkanother thing that’s nice is that youcan either just use an extension cord oradd more length while you’re like I didand then plug it in any outlet so youdon’t need a ceiling socket I think itturned out pretty cool let me know whatyou guys think in the comments belowalso I’ll make sure to link the productand use in the description if you’d liketo make one so thanks for watching guysand don’t forget to share it like andsubscribe and I’ll see you guys soon you
